The subtle aroma of this dried sage from Filippone may remind you of the holidays when it’s a key element in stuffing and casseroles. Still, it’s also a staple of many quintessentially Italian dishes. This organic, flavorful sage is grown on a small family farm in Sicily and dried right on the branch, so there's no doubt about what you're getting.

In Ancient Rome, sage was sacred. In addition to its unmistakable flavor, sage is traditionally used as a digestive aid and is high in anti-inflammatory compounds. These branches of sage are picked by hand and hung to dry in the old-fashioned way to retain more of its potent flavor and nutrition.

The second-generation farmers of the Filippone family grow their herbs in the unspoiled majesty of Madonie regional park, near the northern coast of the island of Sicily. Covering more than 60 square miles of mountainous terrain between Palermo and Cefalù, the park is a haven for birds, rare butterflies, and wild orchids. The high altitude and pristine soil and water combine to make the most flavorful herbs we’ve ever tried. Filippone’s products are all organically grown and harvested with minimal impact to protect the natural beauty of the park and preserve it for future generations.
Dried sage is aromatic, floral, and earthy, with notes of eucalyptus and lemon. It works especially well in heavier dishes with rich ingredients. Steep leaves whole in sauces or soups or gently crumble into your dish to release its potent flavor. Add to tomato sauces, mix into holiday stuffing, use in poultry marinades, try it as a garnish or flavoring for soups, or even mix it into compound butter for steak or bread. Italians love sage in veal chop Milanese, brown butter sauce for ravioli, and even Aunt Raffy’s famous Chicken and Rice.
