This is basically watermelon agua fresca spiked with jalapeno-infused tequila. Add the tequila bit by bit to control the heat; you can always add more plain tequila if your batch is too incendiary! To make simple syrup, heat equal amounts of water and sugar together until the sugar dissolves; it will keep for weeks in the refrigerator.

Ingredients

  • 1 jalapeno pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups silver (blanco tequila)
  • 1 cup lime juice
  • 1/2 cup simple syrup
  • 3 cups watermelon puree (about 1/2 seedless watermelon, blended)
  • Fresh mint for garnish

Instructions

  1. Slice the jalapeno thinly and place in a glass jar or pitcher. Add the tequila and cover. Let sit overnight at room temperature, then strain, discarding the jalapeno.
  2. Combine the infused tequila, lime juice, simple syrup, and watermelon puree in a punch bowl or drink dispenser. Chill well. Serve over plenty of ice, with a sprig of mint for garnish.

To save time (I mean who wants to wait a day to have a drink), Tanteo makes several spicy infused tequilas including jalapeno, habanero (personal favorite), and chipotle.
