If panettone is the old-fashioned highlight of the holiday season, pandoro is its delightful little sister. Made from the same naturally leavened sweet dough enriched with Italian butter, eggs, and Tahitian bourbon vanilla that our baker partner Olivieri 1882 uses for their award-winning panettone, pandoro omits the dried fruit and other mix-ins. The result is a delightfully fluffy, minimalist cake with subtle notes of citrus and an intoxicating vanilla aroma. Our pandoro comes packaged in a beautifully decorated box that will make a stunning keepsake for years to come.

What pandoro lacks in showy flavors, it makes up for with its towering presence. The striking, star-shaped confection comes with an envelope of powdered sugar – empty the sugar over the cake inside the enclosed bag and shake to coat the whole thing in a glorious snowfall of winter white. Born in Verona in the late 19th century, pandoro’s unique shape was modeled on the traditional Veronese cake nadalin, whose eight-pointed shape represented the Christmas star. Its gloriously golden crust inspired its precious name: pan de oro (“golden bread”).

In 1882, Luigi Olivieri began baking in the town of Arzignano in the northeastern Veneto region, at the very base of the Alps. Since then, his family has carried on that proud tradition, and today, Olivieri is one of the top artisan bakeries in Italy. Their signature panettone and pandoro are made by hand with top-quality ingredients, using natural processes and time-honored techniques for the best flavor. Olivieri’s products have won multiple awards, including Best Artisan Panettone in Italy.

Slice and serve your pandoro with espresso or vin santo throughout the holiday season, just as you would a panettone. You can also skip the powdered sugar and use the cake as a blank slate for your own decorating creativity, layering it with mascarpone, whipped cream, fruits, and much more. With its subtle aromas of citrus and vanilla, the fluffy cake complements a wide number of flavor combinations.
