No Italian pantry is complete without a steady supply of oregano, and this dried oregano from Filippone is a beautiful way to stock up. This organic oregano is grown on a small family farm in Sicily and dried right on the branch, so there's no doubt about what you're getting.

Oregano is a versatile, fragrant herb that is a true staple of Italian cuisine. It’s indispensable in sauces, vinaigrettes, marinades—you name it. It grows wild in the mountains of Sicily, where the air is perfumed with its intense, heady aroma. Oregano’s name is from the ancient Greek for “mountain delight,” and it’s been a staple in the region for millennia. In addition to its unmistakable flavor, oregano is traditionally used as a digestive aid and is high in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds. These branches of oregano are picked by hand and hung to dry in the old-fashioned way to retain more of its potent flavor and nutrition.

The second-generation farmers of the Filippone family grow their herbs in the unspoiled majesty of Madonie regional park, near the northern coast of the island of Sicily. Covering more than 60 square miles of mountainous terrain between Palermo and Cefalù, the park is a haven for birds, rare butterflies, and wild orchids. The high altitude and pristine soil and water combine to make the most flavorful herbs we’ve ever tried. Filippone’s products are all organically grown and harvested with minimal impact to protect the natural beauty of the park and preserve it for future generations.
For a flavored oil that is as beautiful as it is tasty, thread a few whole branches of dried oregano into a clear glass bottle, then fill with a high-quality olive oil. Drizzle the oil over a tomato salad or on a fresh-out-of-the-oven focaccia for a subtle flavor boost. Crumble the dry leaves off the branch to use in tomato sauces and roasted vegetables, and use in chicken marinades. Sprinkle on pizza or flatbread for a flavor boost.
