  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Place the sliced baguette on a sheet pan in one even layer. Drizzle with the olive oil, and sprinkle evenly with the salt. Bake until golden-brown, roughly 12 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, set up the “backdrop” of your Christmas tree. Starting from the bottom and working your way to the top, assemble the basil leaves by shingling them in a big triangle, with the basil leaves pointing down.
  4. Top each crostini with a dollop of pesto, a tomato or two, and a mozzarella pearl or two. Assemble them on top of the basil leaves.
  5. For the “star” of the Christmas tree, cut out a star shape from a slice of fresh mozzarella cheese, either with a small cookie cutter or with a pairing knife. Serve at room temperature.
