The weather is cooler, the crowds are fewer - autumn is one of our favorite times to visit Italy, and here's where Giada likes to go!

Get planning - you'll be ready to book a ticket after seeing these picturesque cities in autumn!
Rome

Many say this about Paris, but we say it about this city - Rome is never a bad idea. It's especially not a bad idea in fall. This tourism-heavy city can get very crowded in the summer months, and while it's a popular destination year-round, we relish in the calm of fall. You can enjoy cheaper airfare and hotels during this time, too - score!
Perugia

Perugia is the quaint little capitol of Umbria, and with sun-kissed cobbled streets and ancient medieval walls, it's at its most picturesque in autumn. This underrated travel spot is up on a hill, and the views of orange, yellow and crimson fields and trees below in the fall isn't to be missed.
Parma
Giorgia
Parma, the birthplace of Parmigiano Reggiano and Prosciutto di Parma, is worthy of a visit anytime of the year (as long as you're not on a diet!). Visiting the city is not only a gastronomic delight, but it lends itself to brisk weather: its dramatic opera houses are brightly lit with enormous crystal chandeliers, showing off their beauty against the early dusk of fall. Warm up with Lambrusco wine in the plentiful art-nouveau cafes, and live out your fall dreams in this little city.
Sicily

Giada has said on multiple occasions that Sicily is one of the most underrated vacation spots in Italy - and even more so in fall. Erice, for example, is a medieval hamlet on top of a mountain 2,500 feet above sea level that offers mesmerizing views of the western coastline. The weather in Erice is absolutely perfect in Autumn, with some mist and fog but a refreshing crispness to the air. Wander down the cobblestone streets to find hot chocolate and a Genovese Alla Crema pastry - you'll feel like you've gone back in time.
Lake Como

Known for being one of the most spectacular lakes in its region, Lake Como is picture-perfect in the spring and summer - but wildly beautiful in fall. In October, the hillsides burst with autumnal color and creates the most serene atmosphere. Since the summer crowds have gone, you can take peaceful walks down promenades to view the surrounding landscape, or opt for a ferry ride to take it all in.
