This delectable tart has a secret: It's packed with nutritious superfoods!
For as long as I can remember I've been responsible for making the holiday desserts for our family gatherings, mostly because no one else in my family really likes to bake. That's fine, because I also have the biggest sweet tooth in the family!
When it comes to holidays, I don't hold back. At this time of the year we are not a fruit and-cheese-for-dessert kind of family. There will be pies; there will be cookies; and yes, there will be chocolate if I have anything to say about it. But I also know that there's no reason something that tastes really decadent can't be good for you, too. This tart is a great example.
A variation on the brownie recipe in my book, Giada's Feel Good Food, this dense, fudgy tart is made with blueberries and—wait for it— spinach! Its moist texture and super chocolaty flavor will have everyone convinced they are indulging in something sinful. Only you will know they are getting a healthy dose of nutrients as well as something to satisfy their sweet tooths.
To keep the healthy vibe going, I top each slice with a drizzle of yogurt sauce, but if you want to add a dollop of sweetened whipped cream, I won't tell.
