We eat avocado and olive oil to keep our skin and hair healthy- so why not go straight to the source?

Self love doesn't stop at pedicures and face masks! For your next DIY spa day, why not give your hair a little love too? Giada's go-to hair remedy is a mix of avocado and olive oil. This simple mask may sound like a great spread for breakfast toast, but it also has loads of benefits for your hair and scalp health.

Avocado Hair Mask

Avocado's superfood qualities work just as well when placed directly on the hair, and the oils can penetrate the follicle and actually moisturize hair from the inside out. It's also high in vitamins B and E, which both strengthen existing hair and encourage hair growth - meaning, yes, it can help your hair grow faster, too! Above all, it leaves your hair silky-smooth to the touch and super shiny.

Olive oil, of course, is loaded with healthy benefits as well. It has the power to prevent dandruff, prevent future split ends (and smooth down existing ones), and its natural anti-inflammatory properties can help your scalp be less sensitive. These two superfoods in tandem pack a powerful punch in hair health!

For someone like Giada who has very naturally curly hair and needs a lot of heat treatment to tame it down, masks like this are essential for repairing brittle, damaged hair. She applies this mask on a weekly basis, and here's her simple tutorial!

"What I do is I smash avocado and oil into a paste, and I apply it from the middle of the hair down—I don't want to apply right on my scalp, because it will be too heavy—and I rub it on there, and I leave it as a mask when I'm in the shower. The steam and the heat of the shower will allow the hair follicles to start absorbing the moisture, and it gets a shiny, soft, buttery kind of feel to it, which is really, really nice. Especially for someone who goes through so much with their hair between the blow drys, the curling, the flat ironing, and everything else that happens. " - Giada

Enjoy!
