Fig jam is such an amazing condiment because it goes well with virtually all cheese, and this is a really fun way to literally spice it up. Mix it with a bit of Calabrian chili paste (or your favorite hot sauce/spread) to give it a bit of a kick, and a squeeze of lemon juice brightens it up.

This would be great served on its own with a cheese board, but I really love it on these crostini. Use any soft cheese you like - even a dollop of good quality ricotta would be fantastic - but there's something about rich and creamy brie cheese that is especially delicious with it!

P.S. you can use any fig jam for this recipe, but I particularly love how Agrimontana fig jam isn't full of seeds like many can be.

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Mix the fig jam, Calabrian chili paste and lemon juice together in a container. Taste and add more Calabrian chili paste if desired for a spicier jam.
  3. On a slight bias, slice the baguette into 1/4-inch slices. Brush the slices with the 1/4 cup olive oil, then place on a baking sheet. Bake until golden brown and crunchy, 10 to 12 minutes. Set aside to cool.
  4. Once the crostini are cool, top each with a slice of brie, and a dollop of the spicy fig jam.
