This jar of acacia honey filled to the brim with hazelnuts is a sweet taste of the Piedmont from Le Querce. Nocciola piemonte, the hazelnuts that grow in the mountainous northern region of Italy, are so precious that not only are they IGP-certified (the official Italian designation for products that are best in a specific region), their orchards are actually a UNESCO heritage site. More flavorful than your average hazelnut, they have a rich, complex flavor that infuses into this delicious honey.
While we may think of honey as one basic flavor, the passionate bee experts at Le Querce are on a mission to showcase the wide spectrum of honeys, each as distinct as the flower it comes from. Flavors can range from spicy and dark to floral, roasty, and even bitter—all in addition to sweet, of course! Acacia honey is light and delicate, with notes of almond and vanilla that pair perfectly with the robust hazelnuts.
In 1998, Giuseppe Perino turned his love of beekeeping into a conscientious, nature-first business. Based in the northwestern Piedmont region, the family-run Le Querce now specializes in all things bee-related, from honey to pollen, royal jelly, and incredible sweets made from honey. They run the company according to practices that reflect their love and respect for nature: nomadic beekeeping, organic production methods, and honoring and protecting the biodiversity of their home. They work with like-minded farmers around Italy to source honeys that showcase the incredible breadth of flavors of the Italian countryside.
Use: Sweet and nutty, this product pairs rich, roasted hazelnuts with delicate, vanilla-scented acacia honey. Pour it over desserts such as crepes or for a ready-made gelato sundae, or top ricotta toast for a sweet-and-salty snack. It makes a unique addition to cheese boards and pairs especially well with aged Italian cheeses like parmigiano reggiano.
