Similar to panettone, but completely new at the same time—behold, the Panbriacone from Bonci. The idea was born in 1995, when Sergio Bonci and a local producer of yeast had the idea to naturally preserve panettone by lightly saturating it in alcoholic syrup. After much experimentation, the Panbriacone was perfected and became an instant favorite. Unlike panettone, which is meant to be eaten mostly during the winter holiday season, Panbriacone is to be enjoyed year-round!

The naturally leavened cake is studded with fragrant currants and plump sultanas. After baking, it’s soaked with a syrup made from passito wines from Arezzo and Tuscany, a type of sweet dessert wine made from semi-dried grapes. In addition to giving Panbriacone its unparalleled flavor, the alcoholic syrup prevents it from going stale, so you can have your cake and eat it, too—for a lot longer.

The Bonci family has been making delicious sweets in the medieval Tuscan town of Montevarchi since 1953. They began by making typical local specialties such as panforte and cantucci using treasured family recipes and top-quality, all-natural ingredients. Their breads and cookies are leavened using a sourdough starter that has been in continuous use for more than 60 years! But they’re not stuck in the past. One of Bonci’s guiding principles is innovation, and they’re constantly experimenting with new flavors and unusual combinations to keep their fans happy. That spirit led to the creation of the panbriacone, a unique cake that quickly became one of their most beloved products. Today, the company’s motto is “goodness is a family vice,” and that goodness shines through in everything they do.
