This dolcetto wine jelly from Prunotto Mariangela is a unique way to boost your next wine and cheese night! While the Piedmont region is best known internationally for wine heavy hitters such as barolo and barbaresco, it’s also home to a wide variety of native grapes and styles that rarely make it out of the country. Dolcetto is one of the most beloved of these wines, a well-balanced, medium-bodied red that is adored by locals for its easy drinking quality.

Though its name means “little sweet one,” dolcetto is dry and mildly tannic, making it a great option for pairing with foods of all kinds. No additional flavorings are used to make this unusual jelly, which captures the character of this quintessentially Piedmontese wine.

For decades, Azienda Agricola Prunotto Mariangela has been growing and preserving organic fruits and vegetables in Alba in the heart of the Piedmont region. In the northwest of Italy, Piedmont shares a border with France and Switzerland. It’s a region that is reknowned for its agricultural bounty, home to decadent specialties including white truffles, barolo, and arborio rice. In keeping with their dedication to their home, the Prunotto Mariangela farm is completely self-powered by solar panels that reduce their carbon emissions and keep the land pristine. Their preserves are famous across the country for their high quality and traditional recipes.
Dolcetto wine has notes of black fruits like plum and blackberry, black pepper, and almond. This jelly captures the essence of the wine in a not-too-sweet spread that works well in desserts or savory applications. It’s a perfect addition to a charcuterie board and pairs best with semi-aged or goat’s milk cheeses—nothing too funky!—and salumi. You can also use this wine jelly as the base of a fresh fig or pear tart, or as a glaze for a roast.
