Giada's Favorite Elusive Pasta Is Hiding Under Our Nose

Imagine our surprise when we saw a pasta that we've hunted for all over the 'states right under our nose in the grocery store!

Imagine our surprise when we saw a pasta that we've hunted for all over the 'states right under our nose in the grocery store!
Nodi Marini (or "marine knots") pasta is one of our favorite shapes that Giada found during her travels in Italy. We love it so much, we had countless phone calls to Italian markets and scoured every pasta aisle in Southern California (ok, not really, but it felt like it!) looking for it. Alas, the obscure shape was nowhere to be found - only in Italy! All the more reason to book a vacation, right?
So imagine our surprise when we were shopping at our local Ralph's grocery store looking for a different pasta shape, and lo and behold... Nodi Marini!

This was a big moment. Sold under the name "Trottole" pasta, we have now also seen the shape marketed as "Molloni" and "Vesuvio" from other brands. Seems like this delicious little pasta has had a bit of an identity crisis!
Whatever you call it, we adore this pasta shape for the way pasta sauce clings to every little nook and cranny. It's perfect with a simple pomodoro, alfredo, and can even stand up to heartier sauces like pork ragout.
